Show Us Your Singles!!

*Disclaimer* I totally cheated and copied this from a previous link up! ;)  Welcome to Show us your Singles Friday with Kelly's Korner.  http://www.kellyskornerblog.com/
If you or someone you know is interested contact me on the sidebar!

Ok, so this blogging is a first for me, and I've spent unspoken amounts of time trying to get it to right and reflect"me". (still doesn't look great! ha)  I wasn’t so sure about starting this and was talking to a friend about what to say.  She said “we all know you are funny so that shouldn’t be hard!”.  Um..yea, how on earth do you convey to a reader what you are like?! A little bio info…

My name is Sarah, and I’m 33 years old.  I am from Virginia and have lived here except during my college years. I am a graduate of Southern Wesleyan University in South Carolina.  Currently I’m employed at a hospital in the registration department and have been working here 10 years.  I am very active in my church and help serve by being the nursery coordinator, managing the Facebook page, planning women’s ministries, and singing on the praise team.

I have an 8 year old son who keeps me active with his school, and various sports he participates in.  I have 2 brothers, an adorable nephew and a baby cousin who is essentially my niece!  They love Aunt Sarah! Ha!

I would say some qualities about me include organization and planning, humor, and being a loyal friend.  I enjoy going to the gym but usually time gets away from me, and I can’t get there as much as I would like. My hobbies are shopping, getting together with friends, playing on the phone (love the Iphone!) and reading books and blogs and watching movies.

Mid Week Catchup

It's Thursday but more importantly my Friday!  Week is almost done!!

The weekend before last we had a tournament and the boys won 3 out of 4 games!  Tournament champions!  It was really fun to see them get so excited and fun to be apart of history in the making..the very first tournament they will win in their athletic careers.

*the white pants?!  Really?  Good thing they invented OxiClean*

Our church hosted a Serve Fest weekend and one of the projects was deep cleaning at the local crisis pregnancy center.  I did some vacuuming for about an hour and of course others felt it was a photographable moment.  Funny thing is during the night I had a terrible migraine and my friends attributed it to overworking the day before!  It must have been too much for me ;)

The Prince drew this unprompted on the patio one day.  Sweet!

says I (heart) You Mom.  Not sure why pic is distorted :(

School got out last Friday.  The Prince finished up the year on the Honor Roll and received the character award Honesty.  It was a good year.  Everyone has warned me to get prepared for 3rd grade.  Book reports and projects begin..

had to upload these last 2 pics from phone.  Can't get them over to center so- oh well!

Quilt progress: I've completed the 9 patches and hourglasses.  Now to lay out how they will be sewn.  Fun project..it's just hard finding the time to complete!

Oh and my latest Netflix watch:
Love the Braverman family!  I thought I wouldn't like it at first but they really grew on me.  Working my way through Season 2!

Yard Sales

The past two Saturdays The Prince's games have been postponed so we've been hitting up some yard sales.  We've had a lot of fun!  I didn't take a pic of all our treasures but these two really excited me.
This came home to me for $1 and had some scratches on the top so I covered it in scrapbook paper.  I am right proud of myself for thinking of this!  I'm not the most crafty person out there :)

I can see myself getting comments about being an old lady with this purchase but again for only $1 I was excited!  Suits my Grandma personality!

I added it to my desk and it's been perfect lighting for my latest obsession...

This past weekend I got Netflix (no clue why I hadn't done this before!) and LOVE LOVE watching this series!  It's a tragedy the other seasons aren't loaded on there.  I'm gonna have to figure out how to get them ASAP!

My boy is starting piano lessons next week and will take them during the summer.  We'll see how it's going before committing to the school year.  He's excited about it and I'm so glad he can do this!  I really wanted him to take for the exposure of music, learning a new talent and being able to engage him in something during the summer.  Young Beethoven is coming this way!

Busy, Busy

We've been so busy lately it seems!  Last week went by quickly and then the weekend was full of activities.

One of my coworkers mentioned she had a brand new sewing machine that was given to her and she's never used and plans not to use it!  I made an offer and $30 later here is my new machine!  The sewing buddies confirmed this was a great deal and I definitely needed one!  Yay!  Also, last night a friend gifted me some supplies so I'm well on my way to old-ladyhood :)

On Friday night I hosted a shower for one of the girls at church and her theme was Owls.  My friend did a great job copying the look and creating a cake to match!  I looove coordination!  We played: Price is Right (guessing how much certain baby items cost), How Many Words can you make from Baby's Name, and Gift Bingo (writing down what you think she will receive, and as presents are opened you mark off your square).

I got some good deals on Friday while out shopping.  One was this birthday gift for my nephew.  It was on a shelf with the price tag $6.88.  I went up to pay and it came up $17.88.  After price checking, it turned out Walmart shelved them incorrectly and I got for the cheaper price since it was their mistake!  Whoot!  Love a deal!

Speaking of deals..the Prince and I went to a yard sale at his school and got Battleship game for $1!  It was in excellent condition and looked like it was never even played.  He beat me 2 times in a row though :(

Finally, we've been busy keeping up with 2 baseball teams and practices, games, etc!  It's been a lot of fun though.  Here are the 2013 Giants.  Go #9!  He got a home run on Saturday!

We've both been recovering from allergies.  Can this pollen wash away already?!

It's not Wednesday!

Usually I'm getting my weekly post up on Wednesday but I'm ahead of the game this week!  All 2 readers should be thrilled :)

Quilt progress:
First step of cutting fabric into strips and then sewing into 3 strips is complete.  I think the next step when we go to class is to iron it and then cut into squares.  I'm very much a visual person so trying to think outside the box and not be 'matchy matchy' is challenging!  I had to try and get an idea of what looked good paired together so I had to lay it all out!

On Saturday we went to some friend's house in Rocky Mount for a cookout and while we were out that way, went to another friend's house in Ferrum.  They recently purchased this land as a get-away and we were anxious to see it.  The Prince has been waiting probably his entire life to ride/drive a 4-wheeler so he hops on...
All was going well until he lost sight of some tracks and went a little further.  He took a little spill into some thornbushes but all is well!  No injuries to report thank goodness!!

Sunday we had another baseball tournament and they came in 2nd place.  Go Hitmen!

lunch with friends

This week is filled with the usual busyness but it's good!  Looking forward to the weekend.  I have a baby shower to give on Friday so that should be fun!

Some Thoughts

Hello blog world!  Time for an update I guess.  This past weekend was the Prince's first baseball tournament for his 8u travel team- Virginia Hitmen

We had a lot of fun but of course at 9 in the morning it was coooold!  The blowing wind didn't help either :(  Here is some of us moms trying to keep warm.

The Prince played 3rd base mostly but tried out catcher a time or two.  I thought he looked so old in all that gear!  Where did my little baby go?  :/

(catcher)

(He is the one batting)

I've told you about the classes my church offers on Wednesday night (Financial Peace).  The next series included a quilting class so I'm going to do that!  Yes, that officially makes me a nerd and an old lady but who cares!  I'm happy with it!  And hey, some of my 'young' friends are doing it too so there!  ha

This is the pattern we will be attempting

My fabric selections for the squares:

Monday was the attack on Boston.  I don't even know what to say.  The fact that things like this are continuing to happen over and over again is such an ominous sign to me.  It just doesn't give much hope for the world my child will be living in.  I think I referenced this earlier in the blog but I was probably born in the wrong era.  I was thinking about this last night..I sure do wish I was born in the 40's and raising my child in the 50's.  Obviously each time period had their own problems and nothing is ever perfect but I do feel it was a much safer time in our country and children were free to be children.  There wasn't as much killing or political and moral issues. *Sigh*.  I personally can't resolve these issues but it's a reminder I think in how to raise my son and values to teach him.

Spring has Sprung!

Last week we were surprised with snow one afternoon.  It didn't last long or accumulate very much but it was unexpected for sure.  This week it's been in the 80's!  Flowers and trees are in bloom and starting to look very pretty.  The part I'm liking is being able to walk after work in the evenings.  I've got to get back into that habit!  Flowers aren't the only thing blossoming  around here (so are my scales.  yikes!)

A few Easter pics..

The boys with their coordinating baskets.  Aww!

The Easter bunny brought bubbles!

The Prince's school had Grandparent's Day and had to dress nicely.  When he got out of school we hit up Target.  I took a pic of a normal view for me, always buried in a game.  He's loving having the Ipod!

Last week was Spring Break and I always take off so the Prince and I can do things while he is out of school.  We didn't go anywhere but we sure stayed busy!  We saw the movie Oz Great and Powerful and The Croods.  Oz was a little more intense than I thought but it was still good and Croods was super cute.

Our mall opened a new sports facility where they offer classes and also offer drop in time periods for free play.  We went to that twice and Prince enjoyed getting to play soccer, basketball and football with an instructor.  Check it out!  http://funomenalsports.com/

Another really fun thing we tried out was rock climbing (and by we I don't include myself!  ha).  There is a fairly new facility that just opened here and it offers rock climbing for all ages.  It was amazing to see some of the people that obviously do this all the time and the way they can just scale the wall.  I would die if I tried that!  If you have kids, you should totally take them there for some fun play!  http://www.riverrockclimbing.com/

Ok, I think that's it for now.  I hope to get better about the blogging but I get lazy at nights and then time gets away from me during the day!

For the Love of Shoes

It's Thursday and it's been ages since I blogged.  Perhaps a weekly update is more in order for me??  Last thursday a group of us girls went out to eat at Red Robin for my cousin's birthday.  The birthday person always picks and that must be her fav cause we went there last year too!

Good thing the mascot could join us too!

Belk had a great sale going on last weekend and I took full advantage!  I scored some great deals on Polo shirts for the Prince and of course..shoes for me!  I thought these would be super cute for the summer:

Last fall I had my eye on these Calvin Klein shoes but at $109 I just didn't want to take that plunge.  I saw them reduced periodically during the season but still never purchased.  Well, I walked in and there was a clearance table of shoes on sale plus 40% off plus with Belk card 10% off!  For $30 these came home to me!!

Sunday was Palm Sunday and we had snow of all things!  It started out that morning just as a little dusting but then picked up and we got several inches.  The Prince and I went to our friend's house and he got to get some sledding in.  (notice I said HE.  Why is it when you are young it's so fun to get cold and play in the snow but as adults, just doesn't hold the same sentiment? ha ha)

I think that's all for now.  I'm off next week for Spring Break with the Prince so that's gonna be a great week!  We have plans to get together with friends and just do whatever comes up. The time off always flys though :(

Little Blurp

I came across this on facebook this morning and thought appropriate to have on the blog!

My all time favorite one is this!  I'm pretty much thinking about it already ;)

Last night I took some of the teen girls around the neighborhood and we distributed flyers inviting the 'neighbors' to our church's Easter Egg hunt.  If you are local, come on out!

This weekend will be busy with the egg hunt, baseball practice and a family birthday dinner. Olive Garden!  Whoo Hoo!

Counting down the days!

I have 7 working days until I'm off with the Prince for spring break.  Woot Woot!!  We are both counting down the days so we can be off and do things together.  :)

We had a good weekend.  Our church had a rummage sale and raised a little over $3,500 for an upcoming missions trip.  I got this little picture to hang in my bathroom for $1!

While I was on a picture kick I fixed this one in my shoe wardrobe.  I have an antique cedar wardrobe from my Nana's house and it's filled with shoes!  :)  I will need to take a picture and submit to the blog here soon.

On Saturday I went with a friend to the Gap Outlet in Christiansburg.  The whole store was 40% off!!  Some of the items were even on sale PLUS the 40%.  I got myself some pants, tank top, shirt, cardigan and sandals.  I got the Prince 3 shirts, undershirts, pair of shorts and a pair of pants.  All of that for $80!  That was a good deal and Dave Ramsey would be proud...I've already paid it online so I'm not in 'debt' for these purchases!
Crazy kiddos posing in Gap!

I guess that's all I've got for now!  Happy Tuesday.

Random Dump

Two posts in one week?!  What's going on?  I've had such a demand for what's going on in my life, I'm obligated to inform the readers.  Well, ok..now one has actually said that to me but it's just an impression I have ;)

You may remember I got the Prince an ipod a few weeks back and I'm not sure who is having more fun sending texts..me or him!  I set up a password so he couldn't purposefully accidentally get app happy on me and download a ton of stuff.  He sends me this txt at work the other day. Guess he thought I would want to pass that info on to him??  Ha ha

Speaking of the Prince, he is going to play on a travel baseball team this season and we are in the midst of fundraising.  If you are local and would like to buy something, please let me know!  Currently the fundraiser is Yankee candles.  We can't order online but you can look at the catalog and let me know!  http://www.yankeecandlefundraising.com/springCatalog.html

I helped host a Premier Designs jewelry party a few weeks ago and here is one of the necklace and earrings set I got with my hostess benefits.  Ignore the obvious need for lipstick.  I took this picture to show a friend who got the same necklace, what I paired it up with.

And lastly in this big random dump is a pic of my adorable nephew.  He knows I'm the paparazzi and was refusing to look at the camera.  :)

*Crickets*

Blog a little silent lately?  I struggle with what to post about!  I will have things come to mind then I will rethink it or get busy and I'm not updating as I should!  Bad, bad blogger ;)

Over the weekend I organized a wedding shower for one of the girls at church.  We have never hosted a 'couples shower' but it was fun.  (we don't have to poll the men though to see how they survived).  The main game we played was like Pictionary and the 2 teams had to draw a wedding related item while their team guessed.  It brought a lot of laughter!  I suggest that one if you are in mixed company because it's easy for men and women alike to do!

Ya'll know I've been doing the Financial Peace University and trying to do a better job about saving and the spending.  I read on pinterest about the $5 savings plan.  Every time you come across a $5 bill, put it in a jar.  I've decided to try it and here is my cute jar/vase/whatever it is.  Of course I happened to have 2 $5 bills in my wallet at this time but baby steps here people!  Got to start somewhere!  ha!

I read the blog http://thebigmamablog.com/ written by Melanie Shankle.  She is a really funny blogger and has recently released her first book about motherhood.  I came across this on Amazon and immediately downloaded.  It's a great deal for only $5.   You should look into it too!  (side note..I do not have a Kindle but you can register for a free Kindle app and your purchases will be stored in a cloud type storage.  Also really neat!  ha)  Here is the link to purchase http://www.amazon.com/Sparkly-Green-Earrings-Catching-ebook/dp/B008PX2142/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1363203749&sr=1-1&keywords=sparkly+green+earrings

And lastly, these earrings have been hitting the blog world by storm!  Naturally I don't want to be left behind and am contemplating buying them. I've been doing mental inventory on what I would wear them with and according to the comments/pictures people have been posting...EVERYTHING!  lol.

I'm also considering these instead if I can't pull the trigger and just purchase.  Decisions, decisions!

**One work day separating me from my weekend.  Thank goodness!!!!!!!**
