Busy, Busy

We've been so busy lately it seems!  Last week went by quickly and then the weekend was full of activities.

One of my coworkers mentioned she had a brand new sewing machine that was given to her and she's never used and plans not to use it!  I made an offer and $30 later here is my new machine!  The sewing buddies confirmed this was a great deal and I definitely needed one!  Yay!  Also, last night a friend gifted me some supplies so I'm well on my way to old-ladyhood :)

On Friday night I hosted a shower for one of the girls at church and her theme was Owls.  My friend did a great job copying the look and creating a cake to match!  I looove coordination!  We played: Price is Right (guessing how much certain baby items cost), How Many Words can you make from Baby's Name, and Gift Bingo (writing down what you think she will receive, and as presents are opened you mark off your square).

I got some good deals on Friday while out shopping.  One was this birthday gift for my nephew.  It was on a shelf with the price tag $6.88.  I went up to pay and it came up $17.88.  After price checking, it turned out Walmart shelved them incorrectly and I got for the cheaper price since it was their mistake!  Whoot!  Love a deal!

Speaking of deals..the Prince and I went to a yard sale at his school and got Battleship game for $1!  It was in excellent condition and looked like it was never even played.  He beat me 2 times in a row though :(

Finally, we've been busy keeping up with 2 baseball teams and practices, games, etc!  It's been a lot of fun though.  Here are the 2013 Giants.  Go #9!  He got a home run on Saturday!

We've both been recovering from allergies.  Can this pollen wash away already?!

It's not Wednesday!

Usually I'm getting my weekly post up on Wednesday but I'm ahead of the game this week!  All 2 readers should be thrilled :)

Quilt progress:
First step of cutting fabric into strips and then sewing into 3 strips is complete.  I think the next step when we go to class is to iron it and then cut into squares.  I'm very much a visual person so trying to think outside the box and not be 'matchy matchy' is challenging!  I had to try and get an idea of what looked good paired together so I had to lay it all out!

On Saturday we went to some friend's house in Rocky Mount for a cookout and while we were out that way, went to another friend's house in Ferrum.  They recently purchased this land as a get-away and we were anxious to see it.  The Prince has been waiting probably his entire life to ride/drive a 4-wheeler so he hops on...
All was going well until he lost sight of some tracks and went a little further.  He took a little spill into some thornbushes but all is well!  No injuries to report thank goodness!!

Sunday we had another baseball tournament and they came in 2nd place.  Go Hitmen!

lunch with friends

This week is filled with the usual busyness but it's good!  Looking forward to the weekend.  I have a baby shower to give on Friday so that should be fun!

Some Thoughts

Hello blog world!  Time for an update I guess.  This past weekend was the Prince's first baseball tournament for his 8u travel team- Virginia Hitmen

We had a lot of fun but of course at 9 in the morning it was coooold!  The blowing wind didn't help either :(  Here is some of us moms trying to keep warm.

The Prince played 3rd base mostly but tried out catcher a time or two.  I thought he looked so old in all that gear!  Where did my little baby go?  :/

(catcher)

(He is the one batting)

I've told you about the classes my church offers on Wednesday night (Financial Peace).  The next series included a quilting class so I'm going to do that!  Yes, that officially makes me a nerd and an old lady but who cares!  I'm happy with it!  And hey, some of my 'young' friends are doing it too so there!  ha

This is the pattern we will be attempting

My fabric selections for the squares:

Monday was the attack on Boston.  I don't even know what to say.  The fact that things like this are continuing to happen over and over again is such an ominous sign to me.  It just doesn't give much hope for the world my child will be living in.  I think I referenced this earlier in the blog but I was probably born in the wrong era.  I was thinking about this last night..I sure do wish I was born in the 40's and raising my child in the 50's.  Obviously each time period had their own problems and nothing is ever perfect but I do feel it was a much safer time in our country and children were free to be children.  There wasn't as much killing or political and moral issues. *Sigh*.  I personally can't resolve these issues but it's a reminder I think in how to raise my son and values to teach him.

Spring has Sprung!

Last week we were surprised with snow one afternoon.  It didn't last long or accumulate very much but it was unexpected for sure.  This week it's been in the 80's!  Flowers and trees are in bloom and starting to look very pretty.  The part I'm liking is being able to walk after work in the evenings.  I've got to get back into that habit!  Flowers aren't the only thing blossoming  around here (so are my scales.  yikes!)

A few Easter pics..

The boys with their coordinating baskets.  Aww!

The Easter bunny brought bubbles!

The Prince's school had Grandparent's Day and had to dress nicely.  When he got out of school we hit up Target.  I took a pic of a normal view for me, always buried in a game.  He's loving having the Ipod!

Last week was Spring Break and I always take off so the Prince and I can do things while he is out of school.  We didn't go anywhere but we sure stayed busy!  We saw the movie Oz Great and Powerful and The Croods.  Oz was a little more intense than I thought but it was still good and Croods was super cute.

Our mall opened a new sports facility where they offer classes and also offer drop in time periods for free play.  We went to that twice and Prince enjoyed getting to play soccer, basketball and football with an instructor.  Check it out!  http://funomenalsports.com/

Another really fun thing we tried out was rock climbing (and by we I don't include myself!  ha).  There is a fairly new facility that just opened here and it offers rock climbing for all ages.  It was amazing to see some of the people that obviously do this all the time and the way they can just scale the wall.  I would die if I tried that!  If you have kids, you should totally take them there for some fun play!  http://www.riverrockclimbing.com/

Ok, I think that's it for now.  I hope to get better about the blogging but I get lazy at nights and then time gets away from me during the day!
